In this workshop we redefine the concept of risk-taking in improvisation with Shawn Kinley from Calgary!
It’s not about executing an opera scene in reverse while juggling cats on one foot surrounded by snakes—no, it’s about shattering the patterns you’ve clung to for safety. It’s about making seemingly impossible promises in a scene and wholeheartedly committing to bringing that narrative to life. Risk challenges the guarded improviser to let go of control and create an emotional expression before fully understanding why.
SHAWN KINLEY has worked directly with Keith Johnstone for more than 30 years and has been performing and teaching all over the world (56 countries at last count) for 40 years. With a background in Mime, Mask, Physical Theatre and Improvisation, Shawn brings a mix of styles and tools from many areas and cultures for all skill levels and backgrounds. He is based in Canada with a long history at The Loose Moose Theatre where he performs, directs, teaches and creates.
